Step-by-Step

Starter Shingles

Align lower edge of starter shingles with row of asphalt shingles
Screw starter shingles to roof deck with 2.5" metal roofing screws placed in indentations.
Shingles can be butted-up side-by side during installation.
Use staple gun to apply sealing strip to gaps between shingles in head-lap area.

Solar Shingles

Drill 3/4" diameter hole in roof deck just above head-lap and ~8" in from outside edge of previous row. Angle the hole about 45 degrees to avoid the chance of hitting a joist.
For first shingle at edge of array pull wire & connector from guides until area (A) and push through hole in roof while aligning edge of shingle with edge of shingle on previous course and aligning bottom edge of shingle with top of glass solar module on previous course.
Apply solar shingle with 4 roofing screws placed in recesses just above solar module and spaced evenly.
At the end of each row drill a 3/4" hole through the roof deck just above the head-lap on the previous row and 8" from the terminating end of the row of shingles. The hole should be at a ~45 degree angle to avoid coinciding with a joist.
Continue this method with each course (row) while alternating the color (polarity) of the wire at the end of each course.

Top Row of Shingles

Align lower edge of starter shingles with row of asphalt shingles

Flashing

With a spatula, gently lift up shingles just above top course of solar shingles.
Lay a bead of caulk over the nailing strip of the top row of shingles.
Slide the top face of the flashing under the asphalt shingles
Align the bottom lip of the flashing to completely obscure the nailing strip and press the flashing down over the bead of of sealant.
Lift up each shingle over the flashing and place a bead of sealant on top of the flashing and push the asphalt shingle onto the flashing.
Clean any excess sealant on the glass solar module with mineral spirits or paint thinner.
